Nov 24th

As promised, here are the details for all of the great events we have planned to help our community during the Christmas Season. We appreciate you taking the time to support your children in their development towards being more empathetic towards others this Christmas season, like Jesus calls us to be.

Week of Nov 25th - 29th: Collection of gently used baby clothes for Minwaashin Lodge organized by our Social Justice Club. Please bring donations to Mrs Birch’s class.

St. Francis of Assisi Social Justice Club is a group of students who aim to develop awareness about organizations who are less fortunate than themselves and to help local and world-wide communities. The Club has chosen to help out the Minwaashin Lodge in Ottawa.

What is the Minwaashin Lodge?

Minwaashin Lodge is a shelter which provides various programs and services to First Nations, Inuit and Métis women and children in the Ottawa area.  We chose Minwaashin Lodge because it is a local organization and felt that it was important to support First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in Ottawa.

What are we doing to help Minwaashin Lodge?

We are collecting gently used baby items (toys, clothing, blankets, bottles) for babies who may be supported by the shelter.

When can you send the gently used items?

We will be collecting items for the week of November 26-29 2019.  We understand it will be a short span and that it is a busy time of year, but we would appreciate to have all the items by the end of the week to be able to deliver them to Minwaashin Lodge by the end of next week. Whether you have baby items at your home or know of someone who has baby items, please spread the word among family members, neighbors and friends. Items can be sent in with the students or dropped off in the Rotunda during that specified week.

If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact Mrs. Birch or Mme Côté at 613-830-3215.  The Social Justice Club thanks you for your support.

To make this event a success we need your help. The gifts at our Christmas store event come from your donations. We are looking for items that can be gifts for all ages. Past donations included: Christmas decorations, ornaments, toys and books for all ages, jewelry, ties, and small household items. Please note, each year there is a strong need  for “Dad” gifts. We are also in great need of gift bags, wrapping paper, tissue paper, tags and tape to help wrap all the wonderful gifts. All proceeds go to support families in our school community.

Your contribution will have a great impact on families in our community. Thank you for keeping the spirit of giving alive at St. Francis of Assisi!
